Posted by AMDG en 3/julio/2008

On the topic of short sentences for major crimes, France-Soir has an article about the release, after 2 years and 9 months of prison, of one Hadj Benyklef, who was 16 in June 2005 when he murdered another 16-year old, a French boy named Vincent Germond. During the investigation the killer was kept in jail pending the trial. Vincent’s mother, Dominique, managed to convince her son’s best friend to testify. He had witnessed the murder but was terrified. As it turned out everyone who testified was terrified. They changed their stories, they claimed they couldn’t remember. According to Dominique Germond:

«There was so much fear in the courtroom that it seemed the walls were trembling. Everybody suddenly had amnesia on the witness stand. There was a girl trembling as if someone were going to kill her. She was petrified (…)»

Dominique received threats on the Internet, and her daughter also was threatened. «One of the gang members said to my daughter that she would not be having much fun anymore.»
