Anne Barth, a French social worker in Schiltigheim (suburb of Strasbourg), was victim of an anti-Semitic attack on Friday morning. At 10AM, two men entered the medical center where she works and asked her if she was called Anne Barth. She was then hit and had her head slammed against a table. The attackers then wrote the word «Mohamed» on her stomach and scrawled «dirty Jew» on the wall before they fled. The victim is not, in fact, Jewish. Police indicate that the attackers were «d’origine maghrébine» (just an other way for the French authorities to say French without actually using the word — [désolé, bande de pédés, ces animaux sont 100% fwançais pur porc, faudrait l’assumer.]).

HT: No Pasarán.

No longer able to deny or play down the racial motive, the investigation is entering a new phase. One of the most troubling aspects of this affair is the probable involvement of relatives and neighbors, beyond the immediate circle of the gang, who were told about the Jewish hostage and dropped in to participate in the torture.
[…] Ilan’s uncle Rafi Halimi told reporters that the gang phoned the family on several occasions and made them listen to the recitation of verses from the Quran, while Ilan’s tortured screams could be heard in the background.

French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy revealed that house-searches of suspects related to the brutal murder and torture of a yong Jewish man, 23-year-old Ilan Halimi, produced Salafi (radical Islamic) and pro-Palestinian documents.According to Sarkozy, documents of support for the Comité de bienfaisance et de secours aux Palestiniens (CBSP) were uncovered. The organization is accused by Israel and the US of sponsoring Hamas. Though the US ordered in 2003 that its assets be frozen, the CBSP is not featured on European lists of organizations considered to be terrorist. The other documents found in the house-searches were described by Sarkozy as Salafi decrees. The French government considers the murder to be an anti-Semitic crime.

Lorleach, whose computer-generated picture appeared in newspapers, gave herself up to police Thursday after a friend, Murielle Izourad, also 24, recognised her.She is reported to have provided the investigators with «significant» information. «This young girl was very brave in turning herslf in because she was horrified by what happened,» her lawyer Jean Balan said.He claimed she had got involved because she was «in love with one of the gang members» now being held.

She is said to have told police she picked up young men but did not know what then happened to them.

According to the Paris prosector’s office her role was to act as bait for two victims but having failed to do so was sidelined.

Posted by Spanish Eowyn en 26/febrero/2006

London, Feb. 25 – Iranians were surprised to see that the Persian translation of this year’s “The World’s 10 Worst Dictators” published in the New York-based weekly Parade contained only nine names. Who was missing?

Iran’s state-run news agency ILNA carried a report on the list of authoritarian rulers published by the magazine, but the agency deliberately removed the name of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, from the list.

Parade’s list says that Khamenei has “shut down the free press, tortured journalists and ordered the execution of homosexual males”.

“Over the past four years, the rulers of Iran have undone the reforms that were emerging in the nation”.

Khamenei was a new entry in the Top 10, up nine points from his previous standing.

In a report on Khamenei’s role in the Iranian theocracy in December 2004, the U.S.-based Committee on the Present Danger wrote, “In addition to its peace-threatening nuclear program, Iran under Khamenei continues to be the world’s foremost state supporter of terrorism… He is seeking regional hegemony, both ideologically and militarily. His growing oil wealth increases his capacity for wreaking havoc on his own people and the region.

Posted by Spanish Eowyn en 26/febrero/2006

Lahore (AsiaNews) – The move to rob a famous Christian singer in Pakistan became an attempt of forced conversion to Islam. The incident took place on 18 February in Lahore, Punjab. When he was returning home at night, the Christian, A. Nayyar, was stopped by six men who wanted to rob him. When the criminals recognized him, however, they started to beat and insult him, demanding that he recite the Salama-Tayyaba, the Islamic profession of faith.

After they robbed and injured him, the assailants fled, leaving Nayyar on the ground. Residents of the area, who had heard shouting, went to help the singer.

The singer, according to the National Commission for Justice and Peace (NCJP) – an organ of the Pakistani Church tackling human rights – has no intention of taking legal action against the as yet unidentified perpetrators. According to Waseem Muntazir, a friend of the singer, they were amateur criminals, because otherwise “they would have done much more”.

Nayyar, who performs many national songs apart from Christian lyrics, is very popular among Muslims too.

After the incident, the NCJP wrote a letter to the Religious and Minority Affairs Minister, calling on him to tackle such episodes and to seek to educate the people in religious respect.

Tom y Jerry, conspiradores

On February 19, 2006, Iranian TV channel 4 covered a film seminar that included a lecture by Professor Hasan Bolkhari. In addition to being a member of the Film Council of Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), Bolkhari is a cultural advisor to the Iranian Education Ministry, and active on behalf of interfaith issues.
Hasan Bolkhari: There is a cartoon that children like. They like it very much, and so do adults – Tom and Jerry.
[…]Some say that this creation by Walt Disney will be remembered forever. The Jewish Walt Disney Company gained international fame with this cartoon. It is still shown throughout the world. This cartoon maintains its status because of the cute antics of the cat and mouse ※ especially the mouse.
Watch Schindler’s List. Every Jew was forced to wear a yellow star on his clothing. The Jews were degraded and termed «dirty mice.» Tom and Jerry was made in order to change the Europeans’ perception of mice. One of terms used was «dirty mice.»
I’d like to tell you that… It should be noted that mice are very cunning…and dirty.
[…] No ethnic group or people operates in such a clandestine manner as the Jews.
[…]Read the history of the Jews in Europe. This ultimately led to Hitler’s hatred and resentment. As it turns out, Hitler had behind-the-scene connections with the Protocols [of the Elders of Zion].

Posted by Spanish Eowyn en 26/febrero/2006

«The truth of the matter is you don’t have to run the cartoons. It’s not necessarily censorship. It’s maybe just saying, ‘It’s a little hot right now – let’s not push those issues.‘ Look, I’m a freedom of speech guy. I grew up, you know, I’m the son of an anchor guy so I believe you should be able to say anything.»
Except when things get «a little hot», obviously.
«The New York Times – that’s where we get our straightest news from.»
Ha ha ha ha!
«Sanctions and inspectors were working.»
Yes I suppose they were, in a UN multi-billion dollar fraud kind of way.
And of course, they played the clip from Good Night and Good Luck that nearly every other BBC programme seems to have shown over the past week where Ed Murrow says:
We cannot defend freedom abroad by deserting it at home.
The irony is that those now lauding Murrow’s legend are the very same people who have deserted freedom by censoring themselves in the face of threats.

Clooney, who has weathered attacks since opposing the 2003 Iraq invasion, said at one point that it was «frustrating» to be listed as a «traitor» on a set of playing cards, but he also accepted people’s right to free speech.
He later admitted he relished the attacks.
«I think it’s important to be on the right side of history,» Clooney said.
«I want to be on that deck of cards. And I want to be able to say that they boycotted my films… I want to be able to say I was on the cover of a magazine called a ‘traitor,»‘ he said.
«I’m proud of those because those were badges of honour for me because that was when you did it when it was hard to do,» the actor and director said.

USA continuará dando ayuda al pueblo palestino

Posted by Spanish Eowyn en 26/febrero/2006

Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat Saturday said the U.S. pledged to continue financial support for the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) though the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) would lead a new Palestinian government.

Erekat told reporters following a meeting in Ramallah with visiting deputy US Secretary of State for Middle East Affairs David Welsh.

The meeting was the first high-level U.S.-Palestinian contact since Hamas, whose charter calls for destruction of Israel, scored a landslide victory in Palestinian Parliamentary elections last month.

Welsh is also scheduled to meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas later on Saturday, according to Palestinian and Israeli sources.

The U.S. official is also expected to meet with Israeli officials on Sunday, said the sources.

Posted by Spanish Eowyn en 26/febrero/2006

ROME: Senior politicians in Italy’s government launched a policy manifesto on Thursday vowing to protect Western civilization from what they said were the twin threats of Islamic fundamentalism and a moral vacuum.Marcello Pera, speaker of the Senate and a friend of Pope Benedict, said people in the West were ashamed to stand up for their values and often blamed themselves for being victims of terrorism. «The West has difficulty recognizing itself,» Pera told a news conference to launch the manifesto. «As Pope Benedict said: ‘the West doesn’t love itself any more’,» he said.

The document, entitled «For the West, Force of Civilization», begins: «The West is in crisis. Attacked externally by fundamentalism and Islamic terrorism, it is not able to rise to the challenge. Undermined internally by a moral and spiritual crisis, it can’t seem to find the courage to react.»

La «islamificación» del baloncesto femenino

Posted by Spanish Eowyn en 26/febrero/2006

«…[T]he girls can’t accept that they have only been allowed to compete against girls basketball teams from other Muslim schools. There are only four in the Chicago area, they complain, and their competition isn’t exactly tough.

«Since last year they’ve been beseeching Coach Farida Abusafa, 26, an English teacher who also coaches sports, to ask public schools and non-Muslim private schools if their girls teams would be willing to compete against girls from the Universal School.

«The problem is the schools would have to agree to bar men and boys above the age of puberty from watching the games.

«‘It’s not like it’s a sin to play a public school,’ Abusafa said. ‘The problem is the males coming to the game.’

«The dilemma underscores the balancing act many Muslims perform as they toggle between American and Middle Eastern culture….

«Conceivably, the Muslim girls could play in headscarves, sweat pants and long sleeves. But the bulky attire might make playing difficult, they said….»

Del Chicago Tribune, via Always On Watch.

Posted by Spanish Eowyn en 26/febrero/2006

Lo leo en A Western Heart:

«One of New South Wales’s most senior detectives has warned Cronulla’s rioters they have a week to come forward or face being hunted through the national media. Strike force Enoggera has already arrested 54 people in connection with the December 11 riot and the reprisals that followed. Enoggera boss Superintendent Ken McKay yesterday revealed he has another 50 in his sights. If they do not give themselves up in the next seven to 10 days, 25 of those will find their faces splashed across the national media. The blunt warning came after police announced 10 more arrests – seven yesterday in dawn raids across southwestern Sydney. These seven people of Middle Eastern appearance, aged 19 to 23, allegedly pelted police and ambulance officers with rocks and projectiles at Hashem’s car park in Brighton-le-Sands on the night of December 11. Supt McKay vowed those whose pictures will be released will be identified and arrested.

Pero los ataques no cesan:

«Two men are being questioned over an attack on a man in Melbourne’s CBD this morning. The men were arrested early this afternoon but have not been charged, police said. The alleged attack involved a group of men kicking an unconscious man, 26, as he lay in the gutter. A second man tried to intervene but the group then turned on him, police said. Doctors today operated on an injury to his hand. The first victim was taken from St Vincent’s Hospital by his parents before doctors could treat him, hospital spokesman Mike Griffin said. Mr Griffin said the victim was conscious when he arrived at hospital, but was believed to have been unconscious for two or three minutes during the attack. The attack happened on Elizabeth Street, south of Little Bourke Street, about 6am (AEDT) today. Members of the group were described by police as being of Middle-Eastern appearance and left the scene in a yellow car.

La web IranFocus.com, hackeada desde Teherán

Posted by Spanish Eowyn en 26/febrero/2006

London, Feb 24 – A four-week investigation into serious malfunctions in the Iran Focus news site has revealed that the website was the victim of malicious cyber attacks from Tehran, the website’s co-director Javid Akbari said.

Following several spates of irregular service in Iran Focus, the technical department carried out a review of the site’s structural integrity and outside influences to discover possible cause of the disruption in service.

The source of the attacks was difficult to trace as they were occurring in irregular patterns and at times via interim platforms, but after lengthy investigations, it was discovered that several IPs were systematically carrying out DOS (Denial of Service) attacks on the site to disrupt services.

In less than two years, Iran Focus has established itself as a leading source of news and information on Iran and has become the Internet’s most popular English-language website on Iranian news.
